A cargo vessel carrying approximately 46,000 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Qatar has safely arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat, India. The shipment comes at a crucial time as tensions continue to rise in parts of West Asia, affecting global energy supply routes.
The vessel, identified as Shivalik, is transporting LPG ordered by Indian Oil Corporation. The shipment is large enough to supply nearly 3.24 million domestic LPG cylinders across India.
Unloading at Mundra Port
Authorities at Mundra Port provided priority berthing to ensure the vessel could begin unloading without delay. The cargo will be discharged in phases - about 20,000 tonnes at Mundra Port, with the remaining 26,000 tonnes transported to New Mangalore Port.
Once unloaded, the LPG will be distributed to fuel depots and supply networks throughout India, reaching households across multiple states.
Route and Context
The vessel departed from Qatar on March 7 and passed through the strategic Strait of Hormuz before reaching Indian waters. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical global corridors for oil and gas transportation.
Government sources confirmed that authorities are closely monitoring shipping movements and energy supply routes to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for India.
