Gujarat Petrol Shortage: Pumps Closed in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot

Gujarat Petrol Shortage: Pumps Closed in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot - CTA Transport News

Petrol pumps across several major cities in Gujarat have shut down as fuel supply disruption hits the state. Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Dwarka are all witnessing closed pumps and long queues of vehicles.

Over 1,000 IOC-linked petrol pumps in Saurashtra and Kutch are affected. Supply has been irregular in recent days.

City-Wise Situation

Ahmedabad: The HP petrol pump at Shivranjani Crossroads shut at around 9:30 am after exhausting its fuel stock. A tanker from the depot had not arrived in time. Another pump near Manav Mandir was also found closed, while long queues were seen at a Bharat Petroleum pump in Danapith.

Vadodara: Nayara petrol pumps have put up barricades due to lack of petrol. Supply tankers that used to arrive daily are now taking three to four days.

Rajkot: Seven IOC petrol pumps along with some private outlets are currently closed. Payment could not proceed through banks due to Eid and Sunday public holidays.

Surat: Dealers have reported reduced supply from oil companies. Around five petrol pumps in the city have already shut down.

Dwarka: The temple town saw long queues at petrol pumps on Sunday. Both main fuel stations were completely exhausted, causing inconvenience to pilgrims and local residents.

What Industry Bodies Say

Tansukhbhai Parmar, treasurer of the Gujarat Petroleum Dealers Association, said petrol supply has reduced since Friday. Oil companies are providing less fuel citing technical reasons.

Dhimant Ghelani, secretary of the Federation of Gujarat Petrol-Diesel Dealers Association, said more than 1,000 pumps in Saurashtra and Kutch are linked to IOC and supply has been irregular.

IOC Response

Following dealer representations, IOC officials informed dealers that changes have been made in the supply system. If a single dealer cannot lift 20,000 litres at once, two dealers will now be allowed to jointly lift the stock. Officials assured that bottlenecks have been cleared.

Warning: Panic buying is making the situation worse. Most motorists are filling tanks to full capacity, depleting stocks faster than usual.
